Condo Insurance in Florida
Technically speaking, nobody in Florida is legally required to carry condo insurance. There is no law on the books that says that condo owners or renters are required to carry coverage. However, you're probably not going to find a condo association in all of Tallahassee, FL that doesn't require you to carry it.
Generally, you're going to be buying insurance on the building itself through your condo association. The building is shared property, of course, as your condo is going to be connected to other condos. It doesn't make a lot of sense for everyone to be buying a policy to cover their own section of the building. But everything inside of the building, your possessions, your furniture, the safety and wellbeing of your family and visitors, that's going to be down to the individual condo owner. Even if your condo association doesn't require that you carry your condo insurance, the insurance that you buy on the building itself doesn't offer any protection for your possessions, so don't think you're covered just because the building is.
While some condo associations may prefer that you buy condo insurance through their provider, few condo associations are going to require this. Generally, you're going to be free to shop around to find a policy that you like from a provider you trust. Some condo owners may buy insurance through their association to keep things simple, but generally, you're going to want to do your own research and compare quotes so that you can save.
